Scratch "visit an epic NYC playground" off your summer bucket list. The Chelsea Waterside Park Play Area has officially reopened after nearly a year of renovations, and the $3.4 million in upgrades will make your kids go bananas.

Just in time to close out the dog days of summer, the Chelsea venue, which was designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh, welcomes the community to explore newly constructed water features, a fun sand area plus a new shaded region where parents can catch a breather.

But perhaps what kiddos (and parents) are most looking forward to is the slide, a funky multi-colored structure channeling a familiar resident of the Hudson River Park Estuary: the pipefish. He’s quirky, he’s grand and he’s ready for kiddos to slide until their hearts’ content.

“For many of us who live in this big jungle, parks and playgrounds—for most people—are really our backyards,” NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson said during the big reveal. “...without a green space, without a haven, our city would be so much less welcoming.”

Not the case in Chelsea— The playground is more than ready for little visitors To take it advantage of its upgrades. In addition to the epic offerings, the nearly 17,000-square-foot grounds are a taste of NYC’s past, as the features were designed with reclaimed pieces from the West Side Highway, Hudson River Park and old Meatpacking District businesses.

Now that The Hudson River Park Trust has officially opened the park back up for business, there's just one thing left to do: Visit!
