While you are en route to the ballots on Nov 3, your little scholars will be in class.

For the first time in recent history, NYC schools will be in session on Election Day. Although children won't be physically in the buildings, they'll be learning online according to the 2020-2021 academic calendar, which marks next Tuesday as "fully remote instructional day for all students."

Kiddos were off four years ago, but given 2020's environment and delayed start, as well as the state requirement to meet 180 learning days, it comes as no surprise that things are going digital. But that doesn't mean this historic moment should be pushed under the rug: If you're looking to get your young patriots involved in current affairs, check out the NYPL's Election Reading List for kids and teens. The selections focus on voter issues such as climate change, foreign policy and healthcare, among many others.

While you're at it, you can cast your vote at one of the city's coolest polling places. If you've voted by mail, you can check the status of your ballot.
