There are various courses and options (some of which include night-time zip lining!) that will keep your brood plenty entertained while swinging in the air, no matter their experience level. A selection of these venues are nestled in NYC's most popular attractions, which allows families to take full advantage of a day out...or opt for something a little less intense if the sidelines seem more inviting. (If half your crew isn't up for the rush at the Bronx Zoo Treetop Adventure, you can always hang out with the furry residents instead). 

Regardless of where you choose your family's adventure, you'll need to fasten those helmets and prepare for an experience like no other.

Queens' second-largest park is home to New York City's first public high ropes adventure course, a thrilling excursion for all of those who are daring enough to attend. Part of the Urban Park Rangers' Alley Pond Adventure Program, these offerings look to help kids utilize their problem-solving and teammwork skills. Even better? Your youngsters (8 and up) can get their thrills for free on Sundays from 9:30am–1pm through Oct 18!

Adventures at Governors Island packs in more fun than ever before thanks to a longer zip line (introduced in 2018) plus a maze challenge and rock climbing options, so kiddies better come well rested before making their way to the island. If a few tries at ziplining is more than enough for you, make sure to take advantage of the new seating area or grab a bite to eat while your youngsters glide away.

Thrill-seekers can roam above the trees or zip line over the Bronx River at the Bronx Zoo’s new Treetop Adventure course. The park features seven aerial courses and eight to 12 different challenges of rope bridges, tight ropes, ladders and swings above the forest canopy. The courageous can then hop on one of two zip lines to travel 800 feet over the river and back while 50 feet above the ground. Participants must be at least 7 years old, weigh between 50 and 275 pounds and able to reach 5’6” with their feet flat on the ground.

Heading out east? Then a trip to this adventurous Long Island destination is a must. Kids (7 and up), teens and adults are welcomed to try their hand at a variety of different color-coordinated aerial trails, depending on skill level. Though zip lining is one of the many activities that awaits visitors, this venue boasts the fact that it is a climbing park amid gorgeous trees more so than anything else. Zip lining is just one of the many exciting factors of the attraction. Feeling really brave? "Glow in the Park" where you'll be able to hop to and from trees at night as the attraction is lit up. Neat!

If you're looking to get out of town for a few days, New York Zipline Adventures in Hunter is a great way to check out beautiful outdoor scenes. Offerings include the Night Zip Tour (10 and up) that provides a moon-lit adventure, the Mid-Mountain Tour that allows families to take in views of the Catskill Mountains and much more.
