Tribeca Film Festival Family Street Fair
Thu May 1 2008
The Tribeca Film Festival is the obvious go-to for local film lovers, but the Festival’s Family Street Fair (located on Greenwich St between Hubert and Duane Sts ) celebrates the neighborhood of Tribeca itself and the city’s culture—as well as film.
On Saturday, May 3 from 10am-6pm, more than thirty local restaurants, merchants, dance companies, schools and choruses will entertain festival-goers, along with the 50-100 clowns, stilt walkers and specialty actors lining the streets. But with Verizon’s green screen, performances from Broadway shows and Music for Aardvarks, a bubble garden and appearances by star athletes, this ain’t your ordinary street fair.
Check out what original festivities are in store for this year’s outdoor party:
The Broadway Hour, plus more!
Kids get a taste of live performance during the 11am Broadway Hour on the main stage, which will feature performances from Grease, Legally Blonde and Xanadu. Little ones get to perform, too—by becoming a star from well-known movie scenes in front of Verizon’s green screen, which will later air on Verizon’s website. Plus, gigantic bubbles are ready to be blown (and popped) in the Bubble Garden (Beach and Greenwich Sts), courtesy of the Gazillion Bubble Show.
Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival Sports Saturday
If you thought jocks and film geeks would never mix, The ESPN Sports area shows you otherwise. Athletes from the Knicks, Liberty and the Jets hanging around, greeting fans and giving away gear. If that is not enough excitement for your sports fans, run their energy into the ground at the U.S. Tennis Association’s short courts or the Jet’s football theme park.
The Maclaren Stroller Park
The youngest members of the fam can enjoy a loaner stroller from the Buggy Bar or play in the enclosed play space in the Maclaren Rest/Play area that has mini strollers and rockers. Parents can stop by the Custom Volo Stroller Station to design their own stroller (prices start around $100) and get it in the mail in a few weeks. If you’re not into creating the next super Volo, Lacoste is raffling off a stroller designed with their signature mini alligators.
The American Express Insider Center
The Breakroom at Tribeca Grill (375 Greenwich St at Franklin St) is hosting some exclusive activities for cardmembers from 10am-3pm. Stop by for a break and see cartoons on the plasma screens, dance to the tunes of the kid-friendly DJ and make your own entertainment magazine—featuring you (in Polaroid form) on the cover. Don’t miss out on the complimentary food and beverages!
