The World’s 50 Best Bars for 2024 have been announced, and plenty of spots have been shaking things up

Love a good bar? So do we – and now we know exactly where to find the cream of the crop. The World’s 50 Best Bars announced their roundup of the best places to drink on the planet in a ceremony in Madrid last night (Tuesday October 22), and it included locations all over the planet, from Tokyo and Buenos Aires to Edinburgh and New Orleans.
The bar that claimed the crowd as the very best in the world was Handshake Speakeasy, a glamorous, two-floor bar in Mexico City’s Colonia Juarez neighbourhood. The menu of drinks here might appear pretty stripped-back at first, but head bartender Eric Van Beek uses advanced culinary techniques in all the prep, so there’s more to these cocktails than meets the eye.
In second place it was Bar Leone in Hong Kong, which we already knew had been crowned the best bar in Asia back in the summer, and in third place it was Sips, a 33-seat bar in Barcelona which claimed the top spot last year.
For more on some of the planet’s finest bars, the Pinnacle Guide recently awarded its first-ever three-pin rating: check out the new inclusions here.
Did you see that this European city has just banned late-night bar crawls?
Plus: These are the world’s cheapest cities for a bottle of wine.
