4 out of 5 stars

This hip 216-room boutique hotel at the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge is ideal for slipping into the South Williamsburg lifestyle.

Brand new construction that opened in 2023, Moxy Williamsburg is a sharp, artistically inclined space, with 10 floors of guest rooms, plus a rooftop bar, LilliStar, and a basement gym. On the ground level, a cozy lobby opens directly onto bustling Bedford Avenue, with Bar Bedford offering guests coffee and breakfast, plus refreshments throughout the day. It’s a casual spot to get some work done (free Wifi is available to all), people watch or plan to meet with friends before venturing out into Brooklyn. Yes, it feels like a hotel lobby, but the decor is sleek, the volume is minimal, and locals can also pop in for a cocktail or Zoom meeting. A covered backyard also offers coworking space, where you can relax on a picnic bench with your laptop or take a cornhole break when you need an email recess.

In a city full of events, the Moxy makes sure to keep guests intrigued and entertained as well. Happy hours, drag brunches and more take place on-site, and a WNBA partnership offers guests discount tickets to New York Liberty games at nearby Barclays Center.

The property’s in-house restaurant, Mesiba, is popular for its Tel Aviv cuisine, including homemade breads, dips and heartier entrees served in a sleek, plant-filled space. In the back, a Dolly Parton- inspired nightclub, Jolene, hosts DJs and dance parties of up to 140 guests.

Like most city hotel rooms, guest rooms are cozy, and styled like efficient Brooklyn studios.  Space-maximizing features include under-bed storage, foldable desks, retracting hooks, flatscreen TVs (with the option to link your streaming subscriptions) and more. Expansive quadruple-paned glass windows offer city views and drown out bridge, subway and street noise. Double queen rooms, king rooms, and bunk beds to accommodate four are all available, Rooms are also dog friendly. It’s a clean, bright place to sleep and relax between New York outings.

Neighborhood

Just steps from the Williamsburg Bridge, South Williamsburg has seen a surge in popularity in recent years with the advent of Domino Park and countless trendy restaurants and bars. Directly on Bedford Avenue, Moxy Williamsburg is in the heart of the action in any direction, but also residential enough to like your part of the neighborhood. This part of Williamsburg is truly all-hours, so you can take advantage of early morning runs on the river, all-day specialty coffee shops, and midday casual but top-notch lunches (try Milu nearby for upscale quick service Chinese fare or L’Industrie for good pizza), dozens of independent shops plus major chains, and critically beloved restaurants for dinner, followed by vivacious nightlife until dawn. The hotel is a short walk to the East River Ferry’s South Williamsburg Stop, the J, G and L trains, plus several buses.

Nearby:

For upscale Italian food heavily focused on wood-fired vegetables, pasta and gelato by chef Missy Robbins, check out Misi. If you want to explore a collection of New York ephemera, nostalgic treasures, antiques, and a sweet souvenir shop, head to the City Reliquary MuseumEphemeral Tattoo is also nearby if you’re itching for a tattoo designed to fade within a few years—a perfect souvenir for the daring but indecisive.

Time Out Tip:

Book a table at the indoor/outdoor 11th-floor bar, LilliStar, just before sunset. You’ll get amazing golden hour pics while snacking on Indonesian-inspired snacks and cocktails (try the papaya salad daiquiri), and be able to see the city illuminated from all sides.
