Swap out your usual post-work hangout for one of these new restaurants this September. Our monthly shortlist includes everything from Mediterranean-Japanese flavours to juicy tonkatsu slices made with Jeju pork. Here's the list at a glance. In Havelock II, an 18-seat spot is drawing crowds for its 36-hour slow-cooked black curry, while over at Marina Bay Sands, a family-style Chinese restaurant brings regional specialties and Singapore's largest baijiu collection to the hotel's lobby. Spanish comfort food is the star of the show at a new bodega-style concept in Boon Tat Street, and premium Jeju pork takes centre stage at a new Korean restaurant in OUE Downtown Gallery. Rounding things off is a vibrant spot in River Valley with weekly ladies' nights and free-flow prosecco. Read on to find out all about the city's latest restaurant openings.

1. Kuro Kare

Tucked away in the basement of Havelock II, this casual, unassuming 18-seater is packed out daily for lunch and dinner. The reason people are flocking down? Its signature 36-hour slow-cooked black curry, enjoyed with Japanese rice. The brains behind the concept are Chef Ho Bing Rru and Aidan Wee, formerly from the fine-dining restaurant Fleurette. The duo later ran Kuro Kare at Singapore Management University (SMU), offering a simple line-up of Japanese fare at affordable prices. Here, things get more creative, with a rotation of off-menu items alongside staples like the curry rice. Think 'Siam Tiu chicken wings', deboned and drenched in a spicy Thai-style sauce, as well as 'kaya toast', which sees seasoned negitoro and avocado between crispy brioche slices, with a soy-marinated egg yolk on the side.

2. Le Ju Xuan

A massive 188-seat Chinese restaurant has just opened in the lobby of Marina Bay Sands, at the same spot where Blossom used to be. Le Ju Xuan marks the hotel's second in-house Chinese F&B establishment, and is meant to be a more family-friendly and accessible alternative to its Cantonese fine-dining counterpart, Jin Ting Wan. The menu spans various Chinese regional cuisines, from Cantonese dishes to Northern Chinese and Sichuan specialties. Signature items include Marble Goby, Sichuan mapo tofu with sea cucumber, fresh seafood prepared in your preferred style, as well as noodle and dumpling dishes. Baijiu lovers will be glad to know that Le Ju Xuan carries Singapore's largest collection of the spirit, with over 70 labels, including a collection of Kweichow Moutai with rare, limited-edition bottles.

3. Casa Lola

If FOC Restaurant is your go-to whenever the craving for Spanish food hits, here's a trusty alternative to add to the rotation. Casa Lola is the FOC Group's newest casual Spanish concept, inspired by Barcelona's many neighbourhood bodegas that whip up uncomplicated, flavour-packed comfort food. Graze on a selection of tapas, like crispy plantains with avocado cream and sriracha honey – a Spanish classic reimagined with a Latin American twist. For the daring, order the crispy suckling pig ear with smoked paprika aioli, or the joint's take on Spanish sea snails, perfumed with cumin, cloves and Mediterranean herbs. Move on to mains like garlic king prawns with Spanish Agria potatoes and eggs, tuck into a hearty baked macaroni ragù based on a recipe by Chef Juanjo Carrillo's grandmother, or feast on the house paella, crowned with seasonal ingredients.

4. Katsu By Kyu

Katsu By Kyu presents an entirely different way of enjoying Jeju pork, apart from having it grilled tableside, Korean barbecue style. This new Korean restaurant in OUE Downtown Gallery specialises in tonkatsu made with premium Jeju pork, introduced to Singapore in December 2025. The cut is known to have a denser, firmer texture, with a richer flavour, enhanced by a 240-hour dry ageing process, before it's finished off over rice-straw charcoal. The accompaniments are no slouch either. Katsu By Kyu uses premium Korean Samgwang rice, which is freshly milled on-site each morning, cooked to order in a traditional gamasot (cast-iron pot), and presented with a rice card documenting the variety and origin of the grains. Apart from tonkatsu, the restaurant also serves Japan's popular himokawa udon (flat noodles) with a soy paste or roasted sesame sauce dressing.

Mediterranean and Japanese flavours meet in the middle at this vibrant new spot in River Valley. Think Greek honey, olive oil, tahini, labneh and harissa, paired with miso, Kobe beef, ramen and the like. Popular orders include the tahini gyozas stuffed with chicken shawarma, and tahini, pine nuts and chilli oil for a kick of spice. The hamachi tartlets are another table favourite, with fresh hamachi over crispy tartlets, finished with a tangy, appetising yuzu labneh. The miso hummus, another must-order, sees the classic dip dressed up with white miso, glazed edamame and a sweet-savoury tare sauce, accompanied by pita bread. Be sure to check out the cocktail menu too. Tip: pop by for ladies' night on Wednesdays for free-flow prosecco, or liven up your Thursdays with kimono and belly dance performances starting from 8.10pm each week.
