A total of seven Singapore restaurants made it onto Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list 2020, with Odette retaining its top position as the best restaurant in Asia.
The local restaurants are grill house Burnt Ends, which climbed up five spots from No. 10 to No. 5. Les Amis, which also bagged the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award, rose by 22 spots from No. 33 to No.11. The list also sees Zén, an offshoot of Sweden's Frantzén making its list debut at No.28.
Jaan by Kirk Westway also moved up 11 spots, from No. 32 to No. 21, while Corner House, which recently welcomed a new executive chef David Thien, is up seven spots, coming in at No. 42. Chef Ivan Brehm’s Nouri finishes off the list at No. 50.
Instead of the usual awards ceremony format, this year’s edition of Asia’s 50 Best was revealed via a live stream – in lieu of the ongoing COVID-19 situation and travel restrictions. The awards ceremony was originally set to take place in Saga, Japan.
“We aim to support restaurants all over the continent in their recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and to offer an occasion for the gastronomic community to unite and recognise the work that has gone on across restaurants in Asia over the past year,” says the 50 Best team in a press statement.
