It's a well-known fact that the pandemic has taken a toll on our overall well-being as a collective. If you're not feeling like your best self, don't worry, it's only human. In fact, a recent New York Times article pointed out the exact word for everything we're feeling: languishing, a sense of stagnation and emptiness. 

Yes, we're alive and we're functional. But we're not exactly living our best lives either. Case in point? A study which came out this year found that Singaporeans are the most travel-deprived in the world. But let's have faith. With the Singapore government speeding up the vaccination process, our 'new normal' is on the horizon. In the meantime, here's how to get out of the 'languishing' rut.

Take time off work

Take time off work

First of all, it's very important to take some time off work to recharge and rejuvenate yourself – yes, even if we can't travel overseas. Chances are, you haven't fully experienced everything Singapore has to offer. So turn inward and look at our beloved island with a fresh pair of eyes.

While we're all trying to stay productive at work, it's still important to keep your mental health in check. Spend time in nature

When in doubt, spend some time in nature. Nature is truly healing – and Singapore is filled with nature reserves and hiking trails for you to explore. There's no better time to fully appreciate Singapore's natural landscapes.

We know the word 'routine' doesn't exactly help to combat feelings of 'languishing'. But it's important to have some structure in our lives amidst the uncertainty happening all around us. Rearrange your space

Rearrange your space

Since we're all spending a lot of our time at home these days, try to create a safe haven where you can rest and relax after a long day. Rearrange the furniture in your space, bring in some greenery with potted plants or completely redecorate your living space. We've got cool tips on sprucing up your living room, study room and kitchen space.
