There are some places in the world that need to be shared – pockets of magic so beautiful that it would seem like an injustice for them to be private properties. The 125-acre working cattle farm that’s home to The Brooklet is one of them: a ridiculously heavenly idyll with far-reaching views across the rolling hills.
The Brooklet is a collection of high-end adults-only villas hiding in the hinterland 20 minutes from Byron Bay. With a total of seven villas (three one-bedroom, three two-bedroom and one three-bedroom), it’s a dream spot for a big group getaway or a quiet escape with your number one person.
Perched on the bridge of the hill overlooking the bowl of the valley, each of the seven light-flooded villas is positioned for total privacy and knockout views of the surrounding hinterland. The vibe here is classic countryside luxury – oak floors, marble and brass-trimmed kitchens, freestanding tubs with hilltop outlooks and rainwater showers stocked with Sans Ceuticals toiletries. Each villa comes with a groaning snack cupboard and dual-climate wine fridge curated by award-winning sommelier Ian Trinkle, which feels less like a minibar, more like an absurdly well-stocked private cellar. Ours was villa five – the one-bedroom villa that was wildly spacious for a two-person room. With a fully equipped kitchen and vast open plan living area, it’s the kind of room you could happily call home for a couple of weeks – though you’d need to exercise some serious self-restraint on the minibar.
There’s no on-site restaurant, but you won’t go hungry. Guests can self-cater, arrive to a fully pre-provisioned villa (with a fridge and pantry stocked with supplies), or hand things over entirely to the concierge – who can organise everything from coveted restaurant bookings to a private chef cooking an intimate dinner in your villa. It’s luxury on your terms – flexible and unprescriptive.
The service is seamless and unobtrusive. Contactless check-in means you could easily go a day without seeing another soul, but the team is on hand (via text, or waiting in the communal lobby space from 8am-7pm) to help with anything you need – want a reservation at a local restaurant they recommend? No problem. Want to borrow the Porsche and take it for a spin through the hills? Easy.
You betcha, but that's not your only option when it comes to working out. Guests can hit the tennis court, swim laps in the 25-metre heated magnesium pool, or wander the private walking trails that wind through the property.
Yes – but a very hinterland take on the original. Overlooking the hills, you’ll find an infrared sauna, a huge 40oC hot tub and a 7oC cold plunge. Massage treatments can be booked in the dedicated treatment space or in your own villa with the doors open to the hum of the cicadas.
Set deep in the undulating hinterland, The Brooklet feels worlds away from the buzz of beloved holiday towns that punctuate the region, but it’s within easy reach of Byron, Bangalow and a solid portion of the Rainbow Region’s best dining spots.
The Brooklet is for travellers craving a dose of stillness within easy reach of Byron Bay.
