Drop in for coffee in the morning, gooey choc-chip cookies during the day, and wines and share plates come golden hour

Bennett St Dairy has been a Bondi favourite since 2015. The corner café on Bondi Road, founded by best friends James Meek and Cliff Baskin, is known for its breakfast burgers loaded with hash browns, dill pickles and chilli mayo, smashed avo with goat’s cheese and fresh herbs, and coffee made with beans from Pablo & Rusty’s Coffee Roasters. Come lunchtime, there are fresh salads and baguettes, too.
And, of course, its legendary gooey choc-chip cookies, which went viral during lockdown.
Now, Bennett St Dairy is opening as a wine bar from Thursday to Saturday, serving drops, share plates and cookies from golden hour until late.
The wine list is compact and great value, with most glasses around $15 and bottles around $65. Expect drops like Unico Zelo's jammy, fruit-forward Esoterico orange wine from South Australia's Adelaide Hills, alongside a crisp Philippe Bouchard Chablis.
The European-leaning food menu is made for date night. Biltong is dried in-house, salamis are cured in Windsor near the Hawkesbury River, and the olives are sourced from Carmona, Spain. We went for the charcuterie ($38), which comes loaded with Prima Donna Fino, La Belle Triple Cream Brie, Manchego, prosciutto, salami, pickled vegetables and lavosh.
The Wagyu beef meatballs ($32) are another highlight, served in a rich, bright tomato sugo with pecorino and basil.
And yes, you can still get those famous cookies for dessert, served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream – or pick up a batch to bake at home the next day.
Next date night? See you at Bennett St Dairy.
