To say the calibre of Aussie offerings is high would be the understatement of the season, with world-class bars, restaurants and produce practically commonplace. Determined to prove ourselves once again, Surry Hills' Firedoor has taken out number three on the world's 101 best steak restaurants for 2022.

Coming in third, behind Buenos Aires' Parrilla Don Julio at number two and London's Hawksmoor in first place, the beloved Down Under restaurant has made waves since it first opened under British-born chef Lennox Hastie, who boasts a number of Michelin stars. All the meats on the restaurant's menu are wood-fired on a series of grills that are deftly lowered and hoisted high over the coals to ensure the utmost care is taken when cooking those perfectly picked slabs of meat. Paired with seasonal and locally sourced produce, these are meals worth writing home about, and the steak masters clearly agree.

The list also includes other incredible Sydney steakhouses, with Rockpool Bar and Grill narrowly missing the top ten, coming in at number 12, while other Sydney joints Chophouse and Kingsleys scored numbers 17 and 34 respectively.

Three Melbourne restaurants also placed on the list — Butcher & Vine came in at number 77, Macelleria scored at 90, and Entrecôte took out number 97.

Reservations at Firedoor are notoriously hard to come by, opening three months in advance, and we're sure they'll keep getting snapped up at speed with this impressive new accolade. If you want to secure a table, you'll have to head online at midday on the first Wednesday of each month – so set your alarms and get clicky.
