If Bannisters by the Sea is booked or a little out of your price range, down the road, a one minute walk from North Mollymook beach you’ll find the resort’s more affordable little sister Bannisters Pavilion. The vibe here is younger and more family friendly. The rooms here are generous in size, decorated with a touch of beach-shack chic thanks to linen-covered lounges and sisal macrame wallhangings. Though the views are somewhat less impressive than Bannisters by the Sea, guests of Bannisters Pavilion are allowed to wander up the road to loll about on By the Sea’s pool deck. At Pavillion, the rooftop bar and grill serves upscale milk-bar fare like burgers, fish and chips and salt and pepper squid, plus beachside cocktails and a very drinkable Jules Rosé from Côte de Provence by the glass. There’s also a plunge pool that’s attractively lit on a colour-change loop after dark.
