Just opened in Whampoa, Nine Seafood Place is a one-stop-shop for oceanic gastronomy, featuring several restaurants and retail outlets specialising in seafood, with 70 percent of the seafood sourced from Japan.
Restaurants include Sushi Shota – which we recently reviewed. Originally located in Causeway Bay, the original restaurant was Michelin-recommended and closed for a brief hiatus before re-opening in Nine Seafood Place. Another Japanese eatery is izakaya Zeppin, with an open kitchen with a teppanyaki and robatayaki area. Pull up a seat and watch chefs prepare mouthwatering dishes.
Kaniyen specialises in Japanese crab omakase, with crabs imported from all over the globe including Alaska and the Pacific North Bering Sea. To keep the live crabs fresh, a high-standard tank with a controlled water temperature sits at the front of the restaurant. Hiroshi specialises in matcha and you can also grab a bite to eat, choosing from treats such as pancakes, ice-cream, macarons and matcha egg rolls. If matcha isn’t your thing, there’s also seafood udon and seafood curry dishes.
Full House Chinese Seafood Restaurant allows customers to pick their own goodies from the mall’s ‘Seafood Corner’ and choose how it's cooked. Other Cantonese specialities here include baked crab shell au gratin, char siu and crispy-skin chicken. Oyster Nest serves fresh and baked oysters and you can grab a bottle of vino from the Wine Nest to accompany your meal. Alternatively, pick up a bottle for home from the vast collection featuring bottles from more than 13 countries. Lastly is Daimanzoku, divided into a sushi bar and takeaway area, with super fresh sashimi.
Dedicated retail outlets include chocolate brands Caffarel and Zoë Pâtisserie Et Chocolat, as well as Star Chefs Creation, a pre-cooked cuisine retail outlet, offering various kind of Chinese and Western dishes. Nine Seafood Specialties Store is a high-end grocery store and the mall even has a private kitchen with space for up to 30 people.
It’s not all shops and restaurants. Nine Seafood Place’s Exhibition Zone features exhibits such as ‘Former Fisherman Experience Zone’, ‘Seafood At A Glance’ and an interactive aquarium LED wall for educational family fun.
