Hong Kong’s very own craft spirit entrepreneur Victoria Chow has launched The Woods' Annex, tucked behind her canned cocktail joint Kwoon.
The Annex is tastefully decked out in Victoria’s trademark minimalist style, with artisanal spirits from the world’s most renowned producers. Bookings must be made in advance online as there’s only space for eight guests. Patrons can design their own tasting flight or enjoy a curated selection with expert guidance from knowledgeable bartenders. The recommended tastings include ‘Holy Smokes’ featuring top whiskies like High West Campfire, Laphroaig 18, Del Maguey Chichicapa and Octomore. For gin lovers, the ‘It’s Not Unusual’ flight showcases world gins that use unique botanicals including Barr Hill, Napue, Gin Mare and St. George Terroir.
There's also an extensive selection of over 300 spirits from craft distilleries all over the world and rare spirits are tagged with a library card, detailing a history of previous drinkers. The ‘Travelling Corner’ features unique bottles that aren't available from Hong Kong – instead bought in by visiting industry friends.
There will be opportunities to meet the producers and hear about the provenance, techniques and heritage of these premium spirits, with guest speakers making regular appearances. Already booked in are Matt Magliocco, president of Michter’s bourbon, Jesse Estes, founder of Ocho tequila and Mika Lipiäinen, CEO/Founder of Kyro Distillery gin.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by a drinks menu, The Woods’ Annex is here to help, aiming to demystify the world of spirits and pleasure your palate along the way. Sam Sinha
