The world's first Michelin-starred ramen joint is opening a second Hong Kong shop

In 2015, Tokyo restaurant Tsuta became the first ramen restaurant in the world to be awarded a Michelin star. Hong Kong got its first branch in Causeway Bay’s V-Point this May, with a second venue to open this month in Tsim Sha Tsui's Harbour City.

Eager punters lined up for hours in the restaurant's first weeks to try its famous MSG-free truffled ramen – thankfully shorter than the five hour waits at the flagship branch in Japan. Only 400 bowls are made per day, using a stock (dashi) made with whole chickens, fresh clams and dried fish, all simmered for nine hours before a blend of three different soy sauces and a specially made truffle sauce and oil are added.

If Tsuta's Causeway Bay success is anything to go by, we predict queues snaking out of the Harbour City branch when it opens on 24 September, especially as it'll be serving an exclusive miso soba, using Hatcho miso from Japan's Tokushima Prefecture and other ingredients including porcini mushroom oil and hot sauce for some uber umami!

Stay tuned for our review of Tsuta Harbour City's exclusive miso soba soon.
