Altermodernist, a local artists’ collaborative platform, and curator Yip Kai-chun are turning Kwun Tong in to a canvas and an entire experimental art platform this Saturday with a first-of-its-kind in Hong Kong flash mob art event.

While Kwun Tong has witnessed a blossoming of street art in recent years, these local creatives are taking the neighbourhood to the next level. The self-funded art event, titled Dusk Rat Run, is seeing 30 local artists and artist groups from a wide spectrum of styles and media making use of more than 20 alleyways and narrow streets. Taking over the area from Hoi Yuen Road all the way up to Kwun Tong pier, the artists are transforming these often neglected streets into experimental art by utilising materials often found in them – debris, car tires, pallets and whatever they see fit.

Head over to Kwun Tung this Saturday to see these hidden public spaces in a whole new light and experience the potential that local creatives can bring to Hong Kong’s alleyways. And if you can’t wait, why not check out our own guide to Hong Kong’s best hidden alleyways.
