Hailing from Hunan, conductor Tan Dun collaborates with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Buddha Passion, a six-act vocal and orchestral piece sung in Putonghua and Sanskrit (with English and Chinese surtitles) and featuring both western and Chinese classical instruments. The piece is inspired by Tan’s visits to the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, which contain one of the largest collections of Buddhist artwork and artefacts in the world.
