Meanwhile, HK Express claimed the top spot for low-cost carriers

AirlineRatings has dropped its annual World’s Best Airlines rankings for 2026, and it looks like the Cathay Group has plenty to celebrate. Announced earlier in March, these awards focus on in-flight products and passenger experiences, judged by the AirlineRatings team based on measurable onboard criteria.
In the full-service category, Qatar Airways claimed first place, followed by Hong Kong’s flag carrier Cathay Pacific in second best. Singapore Airlines landed in third, Korean Air in fourth, and Taipei-based Starlux Airlines rounded out the top five. Cathay also walked away with two additional accolades: World’s Best Business Class for its Aria Suite cabins and World’s Best Airline-Branded Lounges.
Cathay Group CEO Ronald Lam noted that the recognitions serve as a testament to the hard work and professionalism of the airline’s teams, adding that the accolades motivate the group to keep innovating and raising the bar. Looking ahead, the airline aims to build on this momentum with a commitment to elevating every part of the journey, having invested well over HK$100 billion in fleet expansion, cabin upgrades, ground products, and digital innovation.
Under the Cathay Group umbrella, HK Express flew its way to the top spot this year from last year’s number four for the World’s Best Low-Cost Carrier ranking. AirlineRatings highlighted the airline’s consistently excellent cabin crew, comfortable seating, and a standout menu featuring authentic Hong Kong street food.
Together, these two award-winning airlines reflect a strong showing for Hong Kong’s aviation sector. Whether you’re the type to splurge on a premium flight experience or someone who just needs to get to Tokyo without breaking the bank, our city’s home airlines are proving they can deliver at both ends of the spectrum.
