Our flag carrier teams up with West Kowloon for a striking new look

Cathay Pacific has just unveiled a new stunning livery on March 9, and this time, it’s trading the nostalgia of its recently revived green-and-white ‘lettuce leaf sandwich’ look for a fresh coat of contemporary art.
Working in partnership with the West Kowloon Cultural District, the airline has launched the ‘Spirit of Hong Kong – 80th Anniversary Edition’ on a Boeing 777-300ER, transforming the aircraft into a flying canvas by Hong Kong multimedia artist Victor Wong. Inspired by Cathay’s ‘Gallery in the Skies’ concept, Wong uses technology to generate landscapes from geographical data. The livery also features both Cathay’s ‘80 Years Together’ anniversary mark and the WestK logo, essentially serving as a billboard for the city’s creative pulse to audiences worldwide.
The art doesn’t just stop at the tarmac. Following the unveiling ceremony, the aircraft entered service, and passengers on the inaugural flight were treated to an immediate cultural experience: a newly reimagined rendition of Cathay’s sonic branding, Song of Cathay, performed by acclaimed Hong Kong pianist, composer, arranger, and music producer Patrick Lui. This modern jazz-infused piece will start filtering onto specific Cathay Pacific passenger flights from mid-2026 for all to hear as well.
So, where can you spot this piece of flying culture? The freshly painted bird has already entered commercial service as of March 9. Cathay hasn’t locked the aircraft to a specific route, but it’s expected to fly various routes around the world over the coming years. Between Cathay’s recently revived retro design and this forward-looking new artistic livery, travellers across the globe will get to see Hong Kong as it truly is – creative, evolving, and grounded in heritage.
