One of the most compelling reasons for Hongkongers to make a trip to Bangkok is to indulge in the city’s vibrant food culture, which runs the gamut from budget-friendly and casual to refined haute cuisine and Michelin-starred. But for those who have been craving the flavours of kanom krok – mini coconut pancakes usually sold by street vendors – you might want to hold your horses before booking your next flights to the ‘Big Mango’.

Kanomsiam, the famous Bangkok dessert brand known for its irresistible pandan sweetmelts, is popping up at Regent Hong Kong’s Harbourside from March 16 to 29. For two weeks, the expert team will take over the restaurant’s dessert corner, meaning hotel guests and foodies alike will have the special opportunity to be spoilt by fresh pandan sweetmelts served piping-hot from the griddle.

Kanomsiam’s long history began in 1975 in Bangkok’s Siam Square. Over the years, the brand rose to prominence with its signature pandan desserts, especially its bite-sized pandan sweetmelt (kanom krok bai toey) – it combines a soft, chewy centre with a crisp base shell, creating a pleasing textural experience. Flavour-wise, the elements have been meticulously calibrated to achieve a not-too-sweet result, driven by the unique, slightly herbal aromas of pandan. Kanomsiam’s pandan sweetmelts are best consumed warm, making its two-week pop-up at Regent Hong Kong’s Harbourside all the more essential.

Harbourside will offer four desserts during this limited-time collaboration, including the one-and-only pandan sweetmelt (kanom brok bai toey), the coconut pancake (kanom pang jee), and pandan sweetmelt with coconut pudding (krok khiao kathi). Kanomsiam will also present an exclusive creation that’s never seen served or sold elsewhere before, and it will make its debut at Harbourside: the crispy pandan sweetmelt (toei tood krob).

Aside from Kanomsiam’s delicious desserts – which will be prepared live with dramatic flair – Harbourside has designed a series of harmonious dishes to elevate the dining experience to a full meal. Kanomsiam’s pop-up at Harbourside will be available during the lunch buffet (from $558 per adult) and dinner buffets ($998 per adult).
