That's right, the pastry magicians behind THAT strawberry watermelon layer cake are finally making their way to Melbourne. Black Star Pastry made the brief announcement through their Instagram account yesterday.

Black Star Party first opened in Newtown in 2009, and Time Out has been fans of the patisserie ever since. Owner and pastry chef Christopher Thé has gone from strength to strength, opening branches in Sydney's Roseberry and CBD, and taking home the Best Sweet Treat award for the 2016 Time Out Food Awards in Sydney. Melbourne got a hint of what's coming to our dessert plates late last year, when Black Star Pastry served up their strawberry watermelon cake with crumbly almond dacquoise and light rose-scented cream at the Night Noodle Markets.

According to the Black Star Pastry Melbourne Facebook page, the patisserie is set to land in Carlton in February. They will also open their online store to Melbourne customers so you can order full cakes for that special occasion (or just because!). Finally, Melburnians don't have to make yearly pilgrimages to Sydney for a slice of that sweet Black Star magic.

UPDATE: Black Star Pastry will be popping up at Cafe Italia for around three months in Carlton and will officially open on February 20. The patisserie will open on Monday to Saturday from 9am-8pm, and Sunday from 9am-3pm.

Is the hype around that strawberry watermelon cake well deserved? See for yourself here.
