It’s hidden behind a ’60s shop façade. Its staff brand their own ice cubes with a hot poker. It’s been voted Asia’s best bar every year for the last three years and currently sits at number seven on the world’s best bar list.
It’s 28 Hongkong Street in Singapore, and it’s coming to The Everleigh next month.
The entire team from Singapore’s diminutive cocktail bar will fly down south for Sydney Bar Week, and will then make their way to Melbourne, where they’ll recreate a mini version of their bar from September 21-22 in what is arguably Melbourne's best cocktail bar.
28HKS is at the forefront of the cocktail world, so you can expect some serious bartending wizardry from the five 28HKS staff members at The Everleigh. We can’t wait to sip the ‘Coppertone’, a tropical version of an Old Fashioned thanks to Plantation Original Dark Rum, Virgin coconut oil, five spice pineapple and Angostura Bitters.
When 28HKS first opened in 2011, the owners hired a PR firm to purposely suppress any coverage of the bar in the media. Unsurprisingly, it’s hard to keep a world-class bar secret – and so word soon spread. You can expect the same thing here in Melbourne, so if you’re keen, grab your tickets now.
