After cultivating a cult following on YouTube and social media to the tune of 200,000 followers and more than 50 million views, comedian Ibby Akbar embarked on a ten-city tour this year for his debut show, I Am. He sold out every single one of his shows, and now he's already set to return to his hometown of Melbourne for an encore performance – but this time, it's to raise money for a cause that's dear to his heart.
Akbar, whose comedy typically revolves around topics like growing up in Melbourne in an ethnic family and dealing with toxic relationships, will be taking over the Palais Theatre stage for just one night on May 26. All proceeds from the night will be donated to the MoyaMoya Charity, a foundation that raises awareness and funding for the rare and progressive chronic blood vessel disorder that his four-year-old sister suffers from.
Tickets start at $35 and are available through Akbar's website.
