Time Out says

You can expect a fusion of soft rock, R'n'B and jazz from this cool cat of a master bassist

It’s time to put your paws out for the masterful bassist Thundercat, who has packed up his multi-genre grooves and is heading to Melbourne as part of Rising. The virtuoso bassist and singer Stephen Bruner – better known as Thundercat – will perform a one-off concert on June 10 at the Forum.

Raised in Los Angeles, Thundercat began playing bass at age four and, before his solo career, was a bassist in the thrashing rock band Suicidal Tendencies. In 2011, he released his debut album, The Golden Age of Apocalypse, and has since revealed several critically acclaimed albums like Drunk and It Is What It Is. From hit songs like Them Changes’ to ‘Dragonball Durag’ and ‘Show You The Way’, this cool cat has strummed success after success.

He has also collaborated with artists like Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington and Erykah Badu. Most recently, he worked with Gorillaz on the 2022 single ‘Cracker Island’.

When it comes to a performance by Thundercat, you can expect a velvety fusion of soft rock, R'n'B, jazz and funk that is swerving and soulful – and full of cartoonish humour. Well, in his own words as to what we can expect: “meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow”.
