There’s no shortage of excellent campsites in Victoria, and with camping season approaching, we're starting to plan our summer getaways. And in excellent news for luxury-loving glampers, Apollo Bay just scored a seriously schmick new place to stay. The Great Ocean Road’s much-loved Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve has unveiled 20 brand-new eco-safari tents, blending creature comforts with a healthy dose of fresh air.

Tucked into the northern end of the reserve – right where the Barham River meanders past and the ocean breeze still sneaks in – these new digs are essentially elevated alfresco bedrooms. Expect safari-style canvas setups with all the trimmings: plush beds, private ensuites (in select tents) and accessible designs with DDA-compliant bathrooms so everyone can join the fun.

The new tents are part of a $5.15 million government-backed revamp that’s also brought upgraded park amenities, fresh green spaces and better access roads to the precinct. The goal? To make Apollo Bay even more inviting for campers, caravanners and weekend wanderers chasing a little extra comfort without leaving nature behind.

If you’re more of a roll-out-your-swag type of camper, the reserve still offers classic tent and powered sites, plus some stellar free camping nearby in the Otways (try Stevensons Falls or Dando’s Campground). But if your ideal evening involves a glass of local pinot by the river before sinking into a real bed, this is your sign to go glamping.

The new stays are officially open for bookings – and they’re expected to be hot property for summer. You can book your overnighter over here
