Plan your next road trip around these stunning historic streets dotted across the state

We may be a little biased, but we reckon Victoria is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. And although you probably picture the state's prettiest spots as golden beaches and stunning stretches of national park, there are certain streetscapes in our country towns look like real-life postcards.
From historic sandstone precincts to magical old-world roads in forest-shrouded regional towns, here are five of the most beautiful streets in Victoria you need to wander at least once.
Step back in time to the 1850s along Ford Street, one of Australia’s most charming 19th-century Gold Rush avenues. You’ll be charmed by the gold-era granite and brick buildings, including the iconic Beechworth Honey Shop, the historic Christ Church and the vintage street lamps.
Few streets in Victoria do old-world charm quite like High Street, Maldon. Once the heart of a booming gold-mining town, the street is lined with beautifully preserved 19th-century buildings, cutesy verandas and historic shopfronts – earning Maldon a reputation for having one of the state’s most intact heritage streetscapes.
Wander down Fraser Street and you’ll feel like you’ve wandered onto a film set. This beautifully preserved Gold Rush-era road is lined with grand heritage buildings, ornate shopfronts and old-fashioned verandas, with the town’s scenic valley setting adding an extra hit of countryside charm.
With its leafy canopy, heritage shopfronts and wide, old-fashioned streets, Main Street in Yackandandah is country Victoria at its prettiest. The town’s architecture has been impressively well preserved, and the surrounding deciduous trees put on a particularly spectacular show when autumn rolls around.
Hiding in a steep, forested valley in the Victorian Alps, Main Street in Walhalla feels like a tiny time capsule. Heritage timber buildings, weatherboard shopfronts and old verandas line the narrow road, and the dramatic bushland rising around the town makes the whole scene feel like a scene from a storybook.
