Once upon a time Macca’s ice cream cakes were the hottest thing a kid could have at her birthday party. But these days, it's de rigueur to up the stakes a little. Enter Pidapipo’s new range of tasty gelato cakes.

Melbourne-made gelato shop Pidapipo just released its existing party cake range, making them bigger in size and using current in-store gelato flavours as inspiration.

Get amongst Pidapipo’s lamington cake, which features layers of fior di latte gelato, vanilla cake, raspberry sorbetto and coconut gelato covered in dark chocolate and desiccated coconut ($80, serves 15). Then there’s the Bacio bombe Alaska, a chocolate cake with bacio gelato and covered in Italian meringue ($40, serves 6). You can also order the passionfruit layer cake bombe, which is made from layers of vanilla cake, passionfruit sorbetto and fior di latte covered in meringue ($80, serves 15). Finally, there’s the peanut butter layer cake, which has layers of chocolate cake, peanut butter gelato, chocolate gelato and salted caramel gelato covered in caramel chocolate and malt crumb ($70, serves 12 generously).

The four gelato cakes will be available to order from all three Pidapipo stores, Carlton, Windsor and the newly opened CBD store on Degraves Street. Also, if you’ve really left things to the last minute, two of the cakes (the lamington cake and peanut butter layer cake) are available for home delivery on UberEats.

All Pidapipo stores are open from noon to 11pm daily.

In case you missed it, boozy hot Milo is winter's newest treat. Also, we tried Vegemite popcorn and it wasn't the worst.
