Time Out says

It wasn’t easy to say goodbye to the former occupant, Turkish institution Yagiz, but a new restaurant in its place promises to be just as exciting

Asian smokehouse and Sydney cult favourite Yan has landed in South Yarra, bringing its succulent, fire-powered meats to the Melbourne foodie crowd. Renowned for their distinct approach to smoking Asian meat and vegetable dishes using a technique similar to American barbecue, the Yan team are fast garnering rave reviews and a loyal following to match. The Melbourne outpost is led by Yan’s Sydney founder Narada Kudiner, executive chef Ewa Goralweski (an alumni of Dinner by Heston) and here on the ground, head chef Joel Lee.

Diners can expect an array of creative pan-Asian dishes, such as beef tataki with smoked mussels and an anchovy wasabi crumb, smoked beef short rib with kale and mountain pepper, and one of the prettiest desserts we’ve seen all year: a layered Hong Kong milk tea cake with rum and brown sugar pearls. It’s a must-try for bubble tea lovers.

Complement your feast with Yan’s generous list of both local and international wines and beers, cocktails and a small range of thoughtfully mixed non-alcoholic mocktails.

The space is sleek and minimal, with moody lighting and tables to suit communal share-style dining and intimate date nights alike.
