The best night markets in Melbourne this summer
Every Friday night from November 30 to December 21, Coburg Night Market will come alive with more than 85 food and artisan stalls, as well as live music and interactive entertainment. Melbourne’s diverse community is truly on show with the versatile dishes served up by the street food vendors. Run by Moreland City Council, over 30 food vendors will be dishing up delicious street food at the weekly night market. There will be vegan, vegetarian and halal-friendly options available too. Much like the food available, music and entertainment have also been sourced from Melbourne's global communities. The market will take place right before Christmas, giving shoppers a great chance to pick up some artisanal gifts too.
Spend your Wednesday nights surrounded by food at the Queen Victoria Market's legendary Night Market. Rows and rows of street food stalls, festival bars, as well as more than 130 art, fashion, homewares and general knick-knack merchandise traders will feature alongside a rotating line-up of musicians and entertainment. Over 60 food stalls will be cooking up delicious snacks all night long, including anything from charcoal skewers, Japanese sliders, Greek doughnuts and so much more. If you're thirsty, the Garden Bar will be serving Canadian Club and Coldstream cider, Mitchelton Winery will be showcasing a range of wines and their fun Prosseco spritzes, plus market faves Brick Lane Brewing Co will be pouring two new craft brews alongside the usual favourites. Right in the heart of the city, the markets make a great dinner stop for anyone coming from work, or tourists looking to experience the famous markets after dark.
The annual French celebration of Christmas will have plenty of market stalls selling items crafted by French designers living in Australia. The family-friendly Christmas festival will feature plenty of food and wine, demonstrations, craft workshops, free trial French lessons and secondhand French books. There’ll also be plenty of activities for the kids, from face painting to games and magic shows. Check out the Christmas stalls where vendors will be selling edible gifts as well as locally designed goods and goods made in France.
South Melbourne Market's annual night market will be returning in 2019, kicking off a killer summer on January 10. Returning for eight consecutive Thursday evenings, Melburnians can enjoy a balmy night of eating, drinking, and dancing as live music performers take the stage. You can expect a revolving line-up of food trucks and dishes from the market's world-class restaurants. The night market will also feature local makers and designers from the market's SO:ME design space so keep a look out for beautiful homewares, jewellery, clothing, vintage collectables, and art pieces.
