Time Out says

Witness a true story of love, courage, survival and foldable umbrellas with this new Australian musical

Driftwood the Musical is based on the true story of an Austrian Australian family that miraculously escaped the Holocaust and eventually rebuilt their lives as artists in Melbourne. The fascinating story follows renowned Austrian Australian sculptor Karl Duldig and his wife, artist and inventor Slawa Horowitz-Duldig – who happens to be the original creator of the foldable umbrella.

Driftwood the Musical is playing from May 3-20 at Prahran’s home of Aussie theatre, Chapel Off Chapel. This new Australian musical promises to take you on an inspiring and life-affirming journey through love, loss, laughter and hope with an original score by Anthony BarnhillWest End star Bridget Costello (Christine in Phantom of the Opera), returns home in the role of memoir author Eva de Jong-Duldig alongside a stellar cast directed by Gary Abrahams.

Driftwood The Musical also celebrates the Australian migrant experience of intelligence, tenacity, resilience and survival. The title reflects the transitory nature of ‘driftwood’, which drifts to a temporary resting place only to be picked up by the next wave and taken on a further unknown journey. It truly is an epic journey crossing three continents and three generations.

The show is based on an original stage play by award-winning playwright Jane Bodie,  developed from the original memoir Driftwood – Escape and Survival Through Art by Eva de Jong-Duldig.

If you want to really make a night of it, there are also some convenient pre-theatre dining packages available at restaurants around the Chapel Street precinct. Stella, Mr Miyagi, David’s and Borsch, Vodka and Tears are all in the mix.

Head to the Driftwood the Musical website to book your tickets, or check out their special pre-theatre dining packages.
