Midsumma's biggest family-friendly event is going all-out for its 30th birthday
Fans of Midsumma – Melbourne's ever-growing festival of queer culture – will be well-acquainted with Carnival and T Dance, which open the festival every year.
This year is set to be louder and prouder than ever, with live music, performances, community stalls and more. Families are welcome to the Carnival (10am-6pm), where the Main Stage will play host to the likes of drag superstar Dolly Diamond, plus comedy duo The Sparrow Men and a special performance from the cast of Kinky Boots. The famous Dog Show is back again, too – so bring your canine pal if you think they've got star quality.
New to Midsumma Carnival is Lipsync Limelight: a drag competition for people of any gender, where the only thing that matters is how well you lipsync to the track of your choice.
Food and drink vendors will be on hand to keep you fuelled throughout the day. You'll need sustenance, because once the sun sets, T Dance (6-10pm) will take off. Midsumma's huge, free dance event will see DJs including Brooke Powers, Miicha, TFG and Wahe transforming the picnic into the best queer dancefloor in town.
