The Gala is back, folks! Every year, the NGV throws a huge party to celebrate the opening of their blockbuster summer exhibition. The party is an incredible amalgamation of art, fashion, music, food and fine wine – think of it as the Met Gala, but Melbournised.
The NGV Gala will return on Saturday, November 30 to coincide with the opening of the new Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines exhibition. Attendees will get exclusive access to the world-premiere exhibition and be able to mingle around the St Kilda Road gallery, where installations, experiential zones and VIP lounges will be set up for the night.
Food will be provided by Momofuku Seiobo chef and Time Out Sydney Chef of the Year Paul Carmichael. Party goers can also head into a 1980s-inspired New York nightclub in the Bombay Sapphire Gin Room, enjoy performances from local drag kings and queens, plus DJ sets from New York's Ge-Ology and Melbourne's Yo! Mafia.
To top it all off, Grammy Award-winning duo Salt n Pepa will put on an exclusive performance, no doubt performing their biggest hits like 'Push It', 'Let's Talk About Sex', 'Shoop' and 'Whatta Man'.
It's the party of the year, clearly, and the event even has a strict black-tie dress code. You’re invited… provided you’ve got a cheeky $375 to spend on a ticket. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the NGV Fashion and Textiles Collection.
Tickets are on sale now.
