Time Out says

The team behind the 5k Beer Run have entered cyberspace with a new novelty fun run

Not so long ago in the Beforetime, a group of beer-loving people came up with the 5k Beer Run – a pub crawl delightfully dressed up as exercise. Pubs across Australia might be closed right now but the nation’s love for bevvies and novelty runs has not waned in the slightest.

To that end, the team behind the 5k Beer Run have launched the Virtual 5k Run. Unlike the original beer run, the Virtual 5k Run has no specific course. Participants plan their own one, five or ten-kilometre course from their house to walk, jog or run on Sunday, May 31. Don’t want to go outside? There’s no reason you can’t hop on a treadmill or complete the run in your yard, house or flat (a 99-year old veteran in the UK just did 100 laps in his garden so I’m sure you can think of something).

The winners of the event will be the runners who complete their course and are back to their screen first. Yes, the organisers have noted that this leaves room for people to cheat so be honest. It goes without saying that cheating in an event designed to bring entertainment and joy to people during the shutdowns is a primo dick move.

Costumes are highly encouraged and there will be prizes for the best dressed and the best videos (tag your content with #TheBeerRunAu to be seen). The run kicks off at 11am AEST and will be hosted by a comedian. Runners are encouraged to stick around after the run to share their runs with other participants.

Beer will still factor into the run, with prizes being sponsored by local breweries. Tickets start at $15 with $5 from each sale going towards charity.
