Turkey takes over the Queen Victoria Market for one big weekend of food, entertainment and culture

Feast on borek, gozleme and Turkish delights this May when the Turkish Pazar festival returns to Queen Victoria Market. This year marks the 14th year the Pazar rolls into town to celebrate Turkey's rich culture.

Originally this year's event was due to take place in March but was unfortunately cancelled. The pazar's organisers (Moreland Turkish Association) are back though and ready to replicate the atmosphere of an authentic Turkish bazaar right in the middle of Melbourne.

The May pazar is slated to focus even more on food this time around (hey, no complaints from us) and you'll be able to try everything from cheezy gözleme to döner kebabs and manti (similar to ravioli) plus vegan and vegetarian street food. Those with a sweet tooth are catered for too, with treats like Turkish delight available (best washed down with a cup of strong Turkish coffee).

During the weekend you can also browse Turkish arts and handicrafts, plus learn more about Turkish culture from stallholders. There will even be ebru demonstrations – the art of paper marbling. Live entertainment has also been locked in, with the Australian Ottoman Mehter Band set to perform.

You can visit the Turkish Pazar at the Queen Victoria Markets on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23. All ages are welcome and entry is free.
