It's official: This summer's gonna be a scorcher

Can you believe it? We're in for some heat.

There was a grim period of time where we were convinced January weather would be the norm, but now Farmer's Almanac has blown our minds: We'll be experiencing higher temperatures than usual this summer, so it's time to plan your outdoor activities (and your AC installation) accordingly.

Since the temperatures will be a bit hotter than what you'd normally expect, your youngsters are going to want to hit the best water playgrounds in NYC. Fan-favorites like the Pier 6 Waterlab in Brooklyn Bridge Park or the Chelsea Waterside Playground promise a relief from the heat (just make sure you grab some treats from Mister Softee when you leave.)

While we're on the topic of food, make sure to scope out the best outdoor restaurants NYC has to offer. Kiddies will not be able to resist a slice at Roberta's or a quick burger-fries combo at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Don't stay cooped up indoors when you can enjoy a meal in the coolest restaurant of all: NYC.

The best part about the high temperatures? It makes traveling a bit easier (no puffer coats required). When the kiddies aren't at camp, plan a few exciting family weekend getaways at one of these cool resorts or scope out the best strawberry picking in NY (no summer is complete without it). How could you resist exploring?

While we are pretty stoked for sunshine and warmth, we are (unsurprisingly) in for a few thunderstorms according to Farmer's Almanac, yet NYC is expected to receive below-average precipitation. But there's reason to celebrate a good rainstorm, too—it's the perfect time to curl up with one of these kids' books or watch one of the best kids' movies with your crew.

Summer, we'll catch you soon!
