Congratulations on your pregnancy! It's time to explore the best maternity stores in NYC!
These nine months are the official kickoff to motherhood...which means you're already quite devoted to baby. Between decorating the nursery and countless doctors' visits, you have to make sure to squeeze in some "you" time as well. This includes finding the most comfortable (and stylish!) clothes to see you through your baby's debut. Whether you're staying in or going out, these shops provide something for everyone. Enjoy browsing the racks!
Best maternity stores in NYC
The East Village institution is the largest children's (and maternity) consignment shop in Manhattan. Make an appointment to bring in your gently used clothes, books, toys, furniture and gear for store credit, then look through the well-organized bargain clothing racks. Jane's also carries new baby clothing from Zutano and new maternity items from Cadeau, as well as a mishmash of whatever local kids have cast off, from tap shoes and ice skates to Disney VHS tapes. The store keeps a "haves" and a "needs" list, matching those who wish to unload with those wanting the castoffs. 191 East 3rd St (212-677-0380, janesexchangenyc.com).
Wild Was Mama
Wild Was Mama, a go-to for city women, offers cute, comfy maternity and nursing clothes (think awesome options like Boob Design Fast Food Bras, which are self explanatory), toys and gifts, baby clothes, baby accessories and even breast pump rentals (you heard us right). This is one of NYC's maternity stores that also doubles as a fun spot for classes in areas such as newborn care, music and movement and babywearing. 272 Driggs Ave, Brooklyn; 464 Bergen St, Brooklyn (347-460-2229, wildwasmama.com).
Run by a neighborhood mother-daughter team, this sweet little consignment shop in Greenwich Village is packed with gorgeous finds from the likes of Bonpoint and Petit Bateau (sizes newborn through 4T). Stop by pre-baby to load up on chic designs from Crewcuts, Janie and Jack and more. If you’re interested in consigning, call ahead to make sure the store is currently accepting, and make sure to browse the online list of brands Clementine accepts. This is certainly one of NYC's most generous maternity stores, as all unsold clothes are donated to Room to Grow, an organization that helps pregnant women and new moms in need. 39 1/2 Washington Sq. South (212-228-9333, clementineconsignment.com).
Calling all super ethereal mom-folk! This is a great pick for young moms. The clothes are affordable (dresses range around $40, tops around $30) and super stylish. PinkBlush also offers comfy, pretty hospital robes that ensure a style faux-pas–free delivery (heh), plus-size styles, ultra cozy sleepwear, fun baby shower gifts, everything you need clothing/accessories-wise for a new baby and, drumroll please: activewear for pregnant moms! At Rosie Pope, stylish parents can shop for the little ones and for beautiful maternity garments. As a mother of five, Rosie definitely knows what you need! ASOS is one of the best maternity stores out there. The products are relatively inexpensive, comfortable and on-trend (there are new items on the site every week)! Most of the styles are classic and easy to mix and match, so it’s a great place to find the basics. Oh, and it’s super easy to place an online order while you’re raiding the pickle jar, so kudos to ASOS! (asos.com).
Offering everything from jackets to dresses, swimsuits, tops and lingerie, Séraphine is a destination for moms who are willing to pay up for designer duds. Dresses will run you (generally) about $175 and up, but where else can you find beautiful formalwear when you’re pregnant? The store also boasts classic, pretty nursing tops—they’ve gotta be awesome if Mila Kunis is wearing them! P.S. Séraphine also has an outlet section online that offers some of their prettiest styles at a discount. 464 W Broadway (646-878-6196); 1321 Madison Ave (212-831-2200, seraphine.com).
A Pea in the Pod
Though A Pea in the Pod no longer has a physical NYC location, it still has some excellent offerings online for moms to be. You’ll find everything from tops, bottoms, dresses and PJs to winter coats, swimwear and nursing/beauty products (mostly in the skincare realm). The online shop also offers fun designer picks like ultra-stylish diaper bags that outdo many people’s handbags. (877-273-2763, apeainthepod.com).
