What's sweeter than peach picking near NYC? Well, blueberry and strawberry picking are equally as delightful during the summer. 

If you have a hankering for fresh produce and want to spend some time outdoors with the kiddos, check out the local farms in your area for PYO hours and rules (many of which have changed this year). Not only will you head home with a bushel of fruit, but the adventure makes for a great day trip.

When is peach season? In New York and New Jersey, peaches are usually available for picking from late July through late August/early September. Remember to call before leaving the house to make sure peaches are available for picking at your preferred farm. (Read: Avoid disappointment).

Best peach picking near NYC

Pick-your-own peaches, plums and nectarines, as well as blackberries and raspberries, are in season in late July/early August at Fishkill Farms. Visit in September and October for PYO pumpkins and fall Harvest Festival Weekends that feature hayrides, donuts and cider!

Peaches ahoy! Wilkins Fruit & Fir Farm has plenty to offer families during the summer months, including PYO peaches! 2018's peach season kicks off on August 11th with both peaches and nectarines. The farm also has some fun family activities on offer in the fall and winter months, including pumpkin picking, a corn maze and cut-your-own trees around Christmas. 

Yorktown Heights, NY (

Mid July and August are joyous times to visit Prospect Hill Orchards. PYO Donut peaches, yellow and white peaches, and nectarines are generally available at this time, and since the orchard has almost ten acres of peaches, everyone's sure to get some! Come back on Sep 29 and 30 10am–4pm to get in on Kids' Days (crafts, cider pressing, face painting, corn maze and hayride—all free with your visit). 

Milton, NY (

Want peaches? You got 'em. Alstede has tons of pick-your-own veggies and fruits on offer, including the best-smelling one of all: peaches! There's also a farm store that has homemade baked goods, dairy, honey, pickled vegetables and other tasty stuff. 

Chester, NY (

Day-trip to this scenic family owned and operated farm that offers strawberry, sour cherry, nectarine, apple and pumpkin picking (depending on the season)—as well as NJ peaches! Visit from roughly July 7–Sept 16 to get your hands on a basket or two for that perfect pie.

Visiting July–Sept? Go on a peach-picking jurney in Ochs beautiful orchards (raspberries, blackberries and blueberries are also on offer in August). When you're through, stop by the petting zoo to meet animals (including a mini donkey!) up close and grab a scoop of homemade ice cream (avail June–Nov). P.S. Don't forget to scope out the Farm Market, which has delicious preserves (fruit and veggie) as well as cider in the fall.

Gear up for an action-packed adventure. Peaches are coming to Samascott in August (check website for updates), and while it's a bit of a hike compared to the other farms on our list, there's a lot to do once you get here! There are now wagon tours (Sat at 1pm, $6) that take you on a tour of the 200-acre orchard as well as surrey bike (four-person pedal bike) rentals with apple crates on the back for storing your fruity findings.
