It may look like an aircraft hanger on the outside, but on the inside the Ovolo Woolloomooloo is more like a doll’s house – as envisioned by Miuccia Prada. The lobby’s wood and pastel palette is instantly appealing, and the strong design comes through in the rooms too. From plentiful power outlets to precision engineered mattresses, it’s a guest-first hotel. This manifests most obviously in the freebies they give out: barista-made coffee, breakfast in the morning, a 5pm-6pm happy hour where drinks are free, plus a bag of goodies tucked up in your room, ranging from locally sourced snacks to toiletries. There’s a cute little pool for the lap-swimming inclined, and plenty of rooms have harbour views. If you really want to go all out, book into one of two ‘Rockstar Suites’ (named after literal rockstars) which have harbour views, eccentric neon lighting, hammock nooks and round, marble bars.
