If your summer social life is starting to feel a little too beer-fuelled, we’ve got the lowdown on a mood-shifting alternative. The newest addition to Sydney’s wellness scene – Positive Energy Health and Fitness – has officially opened in Balgowlah, bringing Miami-coded curves, Palm Springs polish and a full suite of wellness rituals to the Northern Beaches. The pitch? A “third space” that isn’t your home, your office or your local pub – but somewhere you can connect offline without paying for it tomorrow.

As Sydney leans further into its luxe bathhouse era, Positive Energy is positioning itself at the intersection of movement, recovery and café culture. Designed by Woodward Architects, the new venue channels Miami’s Art Deco aesthetic with sculptural curves and arched entryways. Inside, you’ll find multiple fitness studios alongside contrast therapy facilities (saunas and ice baths) plus sound-insulated wellness rooms for breathwork and meditation.

Programming spans strength training, spin, Pilates, yoga, boxing, dance and recovery, with a few hybrid sessions in the mix. There are also specialised men’s sessions (including ‘Zen for Men’ and ‘Bro-lates’), alongside Teens classes, Parents and Bubs sessions and Active Ageing for over-50s.

“For a long time, fitness spaces have been heavily focused on performance and aesthetics,” says founder Jodie Hines. “But what people are really craving is movement that supports their mental health just as much as their physical strength. I wanted to build a sanctuary where design, amenities and café culture work together.”

That café is central to the concept – flooded with natural light, and designed to be more than a post-class pit-stop. The juice bar serves cold-pressed juices made on site, protein-loaded smoothies, “maple glow matcha” and golden turmeric lattes, alongside a tight brekkie menu of smashed avo, bruschetta, granola and a few smaller snacks.

To mark the opening, the studio is hosting a community block party on Saturday March 7 from 6am - 4pm, with free mini movement classes, local market stalls, live music and family-friendly activities.
