The NSW outpost of the beloved Melbourne brand will open in September – featuring the largest sauna in the Southern Hemisphere

Sydney's bathhouse boom is showing no signs of slowing down. From wildly luxurious day spas to affordable social saunas, the Harbour City has fully embraced the art of switching off – and this spring, one of Australia's most acclaimed wellness brands is landing in Surry Hills.
After building a dedicated cult following in Melbourne (it was my first stop on my most recent trip), Sense Of Self is opening its first Sydney location this September – and the design girlies are queuing up. Taking over a former industrial warehouse in Surry Hills, the sprawling new venue will span an enormous 1,200 square metres across two levels, making it Sydney's largest indoor bathhouse. The centrepiece will be the largest sauna in the Southern Hemisphere – but as far as we’re concerned that’s just the cherry on top.
If you’ve visited the Melbourne location, you’ll know that the Sense Of Self experience is a divinely nourishing journey, not just a soak spot. At the Sydney location, we can expect two hot mineral pools, an expansive Hammam steam room, dedicated sensory and relaxation spaces and an immersive walk-through cold plunge designed to gently shift you from one temperature to the next. There'll also be massage treatment rooms and a curated retail space, alongside the return of the brand's much-loved Scrub Station – a self-guided ritual where you can choose your own (gorgeously crafted) exfoliating products before scrubbing and steaming in the Hammam.
Designed by award-winning architecture practice Ritz and Ghougassian, the Surry Hills space will pair chrome, brick, stone and shadow for an understated, subterranean-style aesthetic.
"Since opening Collingwood in 2020, we've always stayed close to what truly matters: belonging, care and a very human way of holding space," says founder and director Freya Berwick. "Sydney continues that journey with a unique space within the city's fabric and a place that is understood best through experience with self and with others."
Bookings for Sense Of Self Sydney will open soon. You can join the waitlist ahead of the September launch over here.
