Set within one of Australia’s oldest buildings, Dunbar House in Watsons Bay dates back to the 1830s – and it sure has some stories to tell. From sheltering the lone survivor of the Dunbar shipwreck to housing a Bengal tiger when it briefly operated as a zoo, this stately home has seen it all. Now, this stunning heritage-listed structure is a newish waterfront restaurant and bar called Dunbar by Paloma’s, run by father-son duo Walter and Jessi Kennard (food lovers will likely recognise Walter from the popular @eatsydney).
With breezy boho interiors, wraparound verandahs and unbeatable harbour views, Dunbar by Paloma’s is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – so you can make the most of the ace location. Expect a fresh take on modern Australian fare, like freshly shucked oysters, mussels in white wine, spaghetti vongole, or a juicy scotch fillet served with chimichurri and creamy mash. Prefer to graze? Seasonal small plates may include zucchini flowers with feta, lemon and olives; and grilled prawns bathed in a fermented chilli dressing. Come Thursday nights, the vibe turns to jazz, with a live band from 7pm and a pool table ready for post-dinner fun.

Upstairs, Bar Paloma’s (yes, named after the grapefruit cocktail) is your go-to for watching the sunset with a sundowner in hand. If brunch is more your jam, don’t miss the bottomless brunch held every second Saturday and Sunday. With three package options starting at $75 per person, it's a solid pick no matter your budget. Plus, you'll enjoy a seven-course menu and your choice of Palomas, prosecco and more. Round up the gang. Find out more here.
