From July 1, 2020 until January 1, 2021, those riding the MTR using an Octopus card will qualify for an automatic 20 percent rebate on their travel fare, to be instantly re-credited to their Octopus card. A 3.3 percent rebate has already been in place for some time, but the government and MTR will now jointly shoulder the increase to 20 percent for all Octopus-using MTR riders. Additionally, the five Monthly Pass Extra and MTR City Saver will be offered at a $100 discount starting from July 1.

“As a Hong Kong-based company, the MTR Corporation is committed to riding out the tough times together with the city,” said Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, Dr Jacob Kam.

With the city’s situation generally improving and social distancing rules being gradually relaxed, these extended relief measures from the MTR are aimed to help Hongkongers overcome the recent challenges that many have faced since early this year. Hoi Man Yau
