Chocolate xiao long baos are now a thing

Hong Kong has been inundated with quirky food lately. We’ve seen a durian Mcflurry and Sailor Moon dim sum, but have you ever considered tucking into a sweet xiao long bao? Well, now you can as Cuisine Cuisine, in the Mira hotel, has just launched a new set of ‘molten chocolate xiao long baos’ ($88 for a basket of three).

There are three flavours to choose from: 72 percent French chocolate, a matcha and vanilla combo, and a hazelnut, chocolate and banana rendition. There’s nothing particularly special about the skin of the dumplings – except for some bright colours – but the filling is a decidedly thick, treacly paste that’s appropriately sweet. And if all that doesn’t somehow satisfy your sugar cravings, there’s a sweet soup set ($78) that comes with a sweet potato ginger soup and one of the new xiao long bao of your choice.
