Expect to chow down on jet-fresh Korean-style sashimi, sushi, and hearty seafood dishes

With how international Hong Kong’s food and drink scene is, local foodies are spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying global fare. Such is the case with Korean food, but while most people might immediately think of dishes like fried chicken, barbeque, or bubbling stews, few restaurants in town specialise in Korean seafood dishes or Korean-style sashimi (hoe).
In case you were curious, hoe is different from its Japanese counterpart, as the raw seafood is sliced slightly thicker to enjoy a firmer, bouncier texture. While it can come with wasabi and soy sauce on the side, hoe is usually served with chojang (a vinegar-based gochujang dip), sesame oil with fresh garlic, or ssamjang, along with accoutrements such as lettuce or perilla leaves.
If that description’s got your mouth watering, you’ll be happy to know that Korean seafood specialist restaurant chain Minyoung Fresh Fish Factory is landing in Hong Kong soon. With over 40 locations across South Korea, this nationwide spot – known for its wide variety of hoe and sushi – is opening its first overseas location in North Point.
While Minyoung hasn’t revealed any specific details about what’ll be served at the Hong Kong outpost, customers will likely get to enjoy premium hoe platters, assorted sushi bento boxes, and other Korean seafood dishes. Visit Minyoung Factory at 233 Electric Road, North Point, from May 15 onwards.
