Fitzroy's been missing a decent yum cha spot, but that hole will soon be filled by Ricky and Pinky, Andrew McConnell's Chinese restaurant on Gertrude Street. So far the restaurant has been serving classic Chinese dishes, but they'll be branching into yum cha service starting from August 5.

As a sneak peek of what's to come, the Ricky and Pinky team are hosting a yum cha preview during the Gertrude Street Projection Festival weekend from July 21-30.

The yum cha preview dishes include the Peking duck spring rolls ($8), spicy beef bao ($6), and egg custard bun ($5) for dessert, with each dish to come with a matched beverage. When you're finished, take a bevvy outside to see a projection by artist Amanda Morgan on the Builders Arms Hotel exterior.

The Ricky and Pinky yum cha preview will be available from 5.30pm throughout the Gertrude Street Projection Festival on July 21-30. When yum cha service is well and truly underway from August 5, you can get your feast on Friday to Sunday at lunch time (noon-4pm). Word on the street is, the restaurant won't be shying away from yum cha classics like chicken feet and honeycomb tripe.
