In case you missed it, the Continental Sorrento (aka ‘the Conti’) has recently undergone a multi-million dollar redevelopment that saw the opening of a public bar, outdoor dining space, late-night speakeasy, fine diner and a swanky 108-room hotel. And now, the final element of this luxurious refurb is ready: a state-of-the-art spa, thermal bathhouse and wellness hub.
The Aurora Spa and Bathhouse is inspired by the healing powers of water and ancient European water therapies. It offers old-school bathing traditions with a modern twist, meaningful spa rituals and evidence-based remedies that deliver deeply restorative wellness outcomes.
Inside this soothing and serene oasis – which covers 1,000 square metres and fits 60 guests at a time – you’ll find four interconnecting hydrotherapy pools, an aromatherapy steam room, a halotherapy suite (which offers salt treatments), sensory showers and a glacial mist chamber. And then there’s the pièce de résistance: a timber-lined Nordic sauna – one of the largest in the southern hemisphere.
If communal bathing isn't your thing, there are eight treatment rooms set up to accommodate singles and couples, plus a private magnesium float room. You can even create bespoke salt blends at the apothecary station.
The space has been designed by award-winning architectural firm Woods Bagot (also responsible for the fit-out of the rest of the building), and was inspired by the natural properties of the Mornington Peninsula – so expect to see a warm neutral colour palette with soft oak panelling, brass accents and a sandy terracotta terrazzo tile underfoot.
Aurora Spa and Bathhouse is now open. For more information or to make a booking, head to the website.
