Ovolo South Yarra

Situated on Toorak Road, just around the corner from the infamous party strip, Ovolo’s South Yarra outpost is perfectly suited to its Chapel Street adjacent location. No detail has been overlooked in accomplishing the hotel’s groovy, 1960s-70s aesthetic.

Before you’ve even entered the elevator you’re greeted with a circular neon fire pit and lava lamps – make note of their vegan restaurant Lona Misa on your way to check in, as it’s here that you can grab a plant-based breakfast, lunch or dinner while staying at the hotel.

When we stayed we found the "groovy" room compact but comfortable and stylish – exactly what you’re after if you’re looking to hit up the nearby Chapel Street for either boutiques or clubs. (You can also opt for either the “go-go” or “boogie” room.) Muted jewel-toned geometric patterns adorn the walls of the suite, while modern industrial metal finishes are softened by velvet furnishings.

What is often the biggest drawcard for guests at any Ovolo is the generosity of freebies, such as the mini bar. Each room comes with a complimentary selection of snacks plus booze, including a selection of local beers and wines, and soft drinks. The guest gifts don’t stop there either, with a free tote bag also provided – you’ll find it in the secret under-the-bed compartment (along with some fuzzy slippers). 

If you’re in Melbourne for a good time, and a groovy time, we can’t think of a better boutique hotel to stay in.
