If you keep abreast of the competitive bartending scene you would be all across the national Speed Rack competition going down in recent weeks. What began in New York as an all-female bartending comp to raise money for breast cancer charities, has gone global with an Australian round searching for our best female bar talent.

While Speed Rack founders, Lynette Marrero of Llama Inn and Ivy Mix of Leyenda’s, are in the country they are also taking some time out to do a star shift at Melbourne's ultimate cocktail house, Black Pearl. The famed drinking house is being turned into a Latin-American bodega for one night only (Wed Aug 1), serving up the flavours of Brooklyn. Mix and Marrero will be shaking up Senorita Spritz (Four Pillars Gin, strawberry shrub and Muna syrup) and a Llamarita (quinoa Orgeat, mezcal and avocado puree), with food is care of local snack providers, Si Signorita.

The Speed Rack takeover of Black Pearl in on Wed Aug 1. Entry is free.

Test out the city's bartending talent at the 50 best bars in Melbourne.
