City slickers looking for a 3pm pastry pick-up can rejoice, with the popular northside bakery-café Rustica opening a new outlet in the CBD. The bakery has just opened a store at Melbourne Central, so now you can get a delicious fix of carbs without having to hit the ‘burbs.

Located on level two next to Country Road, the new Rustica store has the largest menu of any Rustica across Melbourne. Fans of the bakery-café will be able to order some of their favourite menu items as well as try out some new dishes exclusive to the Melbourne Central location.

Add a little class to your lunch hour with a dish of dill and gin-cured trout with freekeh, pickled eggs, baba ganoush, heirloom vegetables on top of a hearty slice of Rustica’s miche loaf. Need a hit of sugar? Rustica Melbourne Central is making a delightfully OTT chocolate lamington French toast, which comes topped with strawberry jelly, Oreo custard and peanut brittle.

The sourdough sages at Rustica have been baking dense, wholesome loaves and indulgent pastries from their Fitzroy flagship store since 2012. They’ve also opened stores in Hawthorn and in the Rialto Towers.

Rustica Melbourne Central is open daily on level two of Melbourne Central.
